BOOKS and DVD's

Amazon.com review of "Jazz Drums" Cyril C. Penn III - "Great Video, Lots of Information, Highly Recommended. , April 24, 2007 " I really liked this DVD. There are so many instructional DVDs on drums. What makes this DVD worth watching is that Peter Magadini gives you a good application of jazz drum techniques and sticking patterns. I don't know about anyone else, but when I hear good jazz drummers play, I always wonder what are they doing orhow are they getting that musical jazz sound. And Peter explains these methods in such a 'matter of factly' manner that you can clearly understand what he is doing. In this DVD he just puts everything together. Amazon.com review

MUSICIANS ON THE DVD: The dvd features the following musicians: From the Thelonious Monk School of Jazz @ USC : Ambrose Akinsmure - trumpet and Walter Smith - tenor sax with: Doug Morton on piano and original charts and bassist John Heard ( Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, B.B. King, George Duke and many more )

"POLYRHYTHMS THE MUSICIANS GUIDE"

A Review Written by James Erickson

"Practice Required" January 2, 2008 This book is a wonderful tool for those who are serious about musicianship. However, unlike most books which spend their lengthy breath trying to lead you along "12 stupid-simple steps," this book spends its pages with application. You will not get anything from this book if you just want to read about polyrhythms. This book is for those who want specific practice on the subject, and "Polyrhythms: A Musician's Guide" does that very well.

"Polyrhythms The Musicians Guide" (Hal Leonard Publishing) If you want to know how time ratios and polyrhythms work together then this will answer many your questions (and will also add depth to your own personal time groove) no matter what instrument you play. It comes with an instructional CD ( Modern Drummer Magazine " 10 out of 10 " ) and.... MD Magazine #6 survey "The 25 Greatest Drum Books" - BUT it is not just for drummers . It applies to all musicians wanting to learn them.

"Pete I love your book Polyrhythms for the Drumset" - Cindy Blackman

"Polyrhythms for the Drumset" is now with Alfred Publishing Endorsers include: CINDY BLACKMAN, STEVE SMITH, CHAD WACKERMAN, JIM CHAPIN, VIC FIRTH, ED SHAUGNESSY, ROY BURNS, BILL MILLER (MD drummer magazine) PETER ERSKINE - See the Quotes section of my site to read what they have to say.

LESSONS & CLINICS

Personal lessons at my private studio, just north of San Francisco, or at Haight Ashbury Music Center (in San Francisco). It also can be arranged to do a one or two hour, one time only, lesson if you are on the road and/or just traveling through. Just email if you want more information. Note: I work a primarily with professionals, however being a professional is not a pre-requisite ( being serious about practicing however is).
